# ¡How can I obtain a license for the desktop software VolView-3.4-win64-x86.exe?

I am a student and I need it for some research projects. I appreciate your help with this concern.
I use this software to apply some filters and process my image, but now I get a message that I need a license to be able to use it, but I don’t know how or where to request the license?
I appreciate your help with this concern.

volview is under Apache-2 license, you can just use it: [https://volview.kitware.app/](https://volview.kitware.app/)

But how do I use Volview but locally, not on the web if it is not my computer directly?

volview load the data locally in the browser, it is not sent on the web.
The previous version of volview seems discontinued, but @Forrest may know more.

The desktop version of VolView is quite old and discontinued. You could email [kitware@kitware.com](mailto:kitware@kitware.com) to see if licenses are still available, but I don’t think they are.

Hi Ricardo,
We have many other tools that provide similar functionality: 3D Slicer and VolView (most recent web-based version). Perhaps one of them will work for you. We’re happy to provide help with choosing one, if needed.
