Hello,

I have seen that conduit has a nice Explicit Selection protocol ([Partitioning — Conduit 0.8.4 documentation](https://llnl-conduit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/blueprint_mesh_partition.html#explicit-selection)). Is there a way to generate a kind of VTK object to represent an Explicit Selection (meaning block id + cell ids) and propagate it in a VTK pipeline for usage in an vtkExtractSelection filter ?
In CGNS there is a kind of Named Selection very similar to conduit Explicit Selection and called ZoneSubRegion (they are attached to a Family Name to allow user selection through a string key)

If VTK has a sort of named selection to extract cells and attach fields data only to the selection, it would allow extraction on demand in ParaView and prevent some data readers to do the extraction internally.

vtkSelectionSource can generate a vtkSelection object which could probably be what you are looking for.
