The linux wheels will not support glibc \< 2.28 starting from the [planned 10.0](https://discourse.vtk.org/t/vtk-9-7-0-and-10-0-0-release-planning/16371) release. If you’re on these distros and use the vtk linux x86\_64 wheels, this concerns you.

- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (glibc 2.23)
- Ubuntu 18.04 (glibc 2.27)
- CentOS 7 / RHEL 7 (glibc 2.17)
- Amazon Linux 2 (max glibc 2.26)
- Debian 9 (glibc 2.24)

[https://gitlab.kitware.com/vtk/vtk/-/merge\_requests/13893](https://gitlab.kitware.com/vtk/vtk/-/merge_requests/13893) made the move from `manylinux2014_x86_64` to `manylinux_2_28_x86_64`.

You write: “linux wheels will not support glibc 2.28 starting from the planned 10.0 release”.

The PR you link to bumps the build images to `manylinux_2_28_x86_64` which according to my understanding use Glibc 2.28 (the image is itself build from one of the RHEL 8 derivatives). Isn’t this correct? So the lowest supported version in the RHEL distro series goes from 7 to 8. That conflicts with the statement that “will not support glibc 2.28”.

Dropping support for RHEL/Alma/Rocky/Oracle 8 would be quite dramatic…
