As per the above title, the SSL certificate has expired  
Cloning into ‘vtk’…  
fatal: unable to access ‘[https://gitlab.kitware.com/vtk/vtk.git/’:](https://gitlab.kitware.com/vtk/vtk.git/%E2%80%99:) SSL certificate problem: certificate has expired
